The Blog None of You Asked For

Yeah, none of you asked for this, and most of you won't care, which is valid. But guess what, I don’t care either! So if you’re reading this, why? I’ve come to the realization over the past couple months that I am a very spoiled sports fan. Now for a while there between 2018-2023, for the most part, all of my teams were really struggling. But before and especially after, life as a fan for my teams has been amazing.

Let me start with my NFL team. Thanks to my Grandpa I am a Denver Bronco fan. I first remembered their 2007 season really well. All 3 super bowls have come in my lifetime but only 1 of them was old enough to remember. I got to witness the greatest offense in history and one of the best defenses ever. The years following are depressing, but I'm sure all you Browns and Jets fans can more than understand that! I thought Russell Wilson was going to set us back another decade, but thanks to Rob Walton, Greg Penner, George Paton, and Sean Payton I am on cloud 9 all over again! I felt like a kid again this past season and now we’re contenders! We should’ve been in that super bowl. Watching Bo Nix go out was the top 5 worst things to happen to me as a sports fan! Am I being dramatic? Possibly. My team is still a contender and I expect to see them in the super bowl this upcoming season especially with the addition of Waddle!

My Grandpa and Dad got me into Nebraska football! I got to watch the last years of Suh and the Big 12. And then I got to witness their collapse once arriving in the B1G. Now Matt Rhule has been such an exciting coach to have. Am I more than satisfied? No, I'm satisfied but in the B1G there need to be bigger slashes. While I was alive for the 97 championship, I didn't get to see it, I was just a baby. But I pray to be able to see them make it to the playoffs in the next 2 years! I love Big Red and will cheer for them until my death!

The Minnesota Timberwolves. I chose them as my NBA team because my 4th grade YMCA Football team was the Timberwolves with their classic 2000’s logo. Now, this team has brought me nothing but pain. I can add more but I wont… other than these two words. Naz Reid. Now get out there and freaking win it already!! Break this Minnesota curse! I only feel a fraction of the average Minnesota sports fan. So I feel really bad for you folks! Ant is the way to the trophy, he just needs a little more help! Last night Giannis got traded to the Heat. I called up Big Boss Stephen (we are both Wolves fans) to vent about the trade.

Now I don’t have much to say about the Texas Rangers. My Nana is a fan and when I was a kid I chose them! Which eventually worked out because in 2023 they won the World Series! That was an absolute blast! But since then, well. Since then it’s been rough! But I got to experience my MLB team winning it all!

The Gonzaga Bulldogs men’s basketball team! Oh my goodness! I’ve been a fan since I can remember. We’ve never won it, but I’ve been able to watch my college basketball team make it there two times in less than 10 years! And they are constantly and consistently good!

I want to touch on the Philadelphia flyers too. I’ve only been a fan for about 12 years. And in those 12 years I've seen them make the playoffs 4 times. Most notable this past season. The Flyers have only won 2 series since then! 2019-20 and 2025-26. What a good series too! I told my buddy John I knew they were going to take down Pittsburg. I’m hoping for another playoff run next year! At least I'm not a Redwings fan!

And lastly. My favorite of all my soccer teams. Spokane Velocity. Both NewCastle United from the Premier League and Seattle Sounders from the MLS are my two other biggest. I have a favorite team from the biggest countries but Spokane is where my heart is. And if you’ve read any of my last blogs and posts you would know everything about how amazing they are doing! Back-to-back runner-up in their first 2 seasons. Enough said.

But my point is I am very blessed as a sports fan! In all my life of being a fan of all these teams I’ve had the chance to see 4 championships and 12 runner-ups from all my teams combined. Add on all the deep playoff runs ending in the conference championships/semi-finals. So I’ve been trying to be more appreciative of what I have not got all bitter and sour when things fall apart. Like I did when Denver had Nathaniel Hackett and Russell Wilson(Lord forgive me for I was an absolute loose cannon).

So if you have any friends who are San Diego sports fans, pray for them, they need it. And if you feel like all your teams are falling apart, Just look at San Diego and Charlotte fans and you’ll start feeling a lot better!

Ian from Sports N Bros has been putting bible verses in his blogs and I feel like I must follow suit! So thank you Ian!

“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”

Colossians 3:2

I put this verse because it’s easy to get wrapped up in sports and shiny trophies. Especially with the FIFA Men’s World Cup happening right now. Enjoying sports is okay, just as long as it does not distract you from God. So I encourage you to keep your eyes on Christ while also being able to enjoy your teams and thank Him.
