So Long, Farewell

The United States men's soccer team headed into this World Cup and from what I was seeing and hearing, not very many people had high hopes for them. I felt like I witnessed history during this World Cup all around not just with the United States. The 4-1 victory over Paraguay and the 2-1 win over Australia was so exciting. Losing to Türkiye 3-2 was a sting. But it was so fun watching the rest of the country become soccer fans for a couple weeks again.

And this time it felt like it might stick to a little bit better. especially since it was here on our home turf. The world was paying attention, but America is paying attention more than they usually do. I've seen so many fun journeys on social media of people just showing love and having fun together. And I'm so glad that we've been able to create this place together.

The United States got a lot of hope from this young team. I hope next time we can make it a little bit further. I think that the USA has a good chance to become a soccer country. The MLS just must get out of their own way and follow what the rest of the world is doing.

During that 4-1 victory over Paraguay, I remember losing my voice by the time halftime came around. There is one more goal by Reyna at 90+8.  I was so ecstatic I was screaming things like “we were going to win it all”. Very predictable behavior from a guy like me. All the matches felt like dog fights, and it was so great being able to share and talk about the whole game with everyone and not just a select few I talk soccer with.

That loss to Belgium stung though. It stung bad. They face Spain next in the quarterfinals. The last remaining 6 teams; France v Morocco, Norway v England, Argentina v Switzerland. The Bros cast their votes for who they think will win the quarterfinals and who they think is winning it all.

Stephen and Jedidiah agreed on all the quarterfinals match winners being Argentina, Morocco, Norway, and Spain. Ian thinks Switzerland, Morocco, England, and Belgium will move on to the Semifinals. And to win it all Stephen picked Spain, Ian picked England, and Jedidiah picked Norway.

We have 6 more days of soccer! These last ones are going to be beautiful! We’ve already watched so many players say their heartfelt goodbye to their national teams. Are we going to lose this work anymore? Who’s going to win the Golden Boot? I feel like we already know whether you agree or not. Here’s to the host nations, Canada, Mexico, and the US of A. So long, Farewell.
